Louis Métaireau - Grand Mouton
The estate is located in the heart of the Nantes vineyard region, in three well-known communes between the Sèvre and Maine rivers.
Grand Mouton has 23 hectares of vines in single block on slopes near the Maine River in Saint Fiacre. This exceptional terroir is composed of gneiss with two different kinds of mica, garnet, and amphibolite. The oldest vines were planted in 1937. The Cuvées are the following: Louis Métaireau Petit Mouton*, Grand Mouton* and ONE
In order to preserve the old vines for many years, all the grapes are harvested by hand.
After spending the winter on its lees, each vat is tasted blind and a decision is made as to which cuvee it will become. Bottling takes place in the spring according to the age-old sur lie method. In the spring after the vintage, the wine is drawn off from its lees with as little handling as possible, and no filtration.
In keeping with this tradition, a part of the wine is bottled by natural gravity flow.
The LOUIS MÉTAIREAU GRAND MOUTON name represents their finest wine.
